Let's go to St Andrews !!!

With this sunny weather I decide to visit the beautiful city of St Andrews with some friends.

This town is know as "the home of golf" but also well knows for its famous University: the third oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of the UK's most prestigious. We were expected to find a lot of princes, but unfortunately there were more golfers than royal gentlemen..!!

Look at these maps in order to situate the city and be aware of what is important to visit (even if it isn't very clear.. sorry about that)!

The West Port

St Andrews was once bounded by several 'ports'. Two are still extanct: So'gait port (now called West Port) and the Sea Yett (as The Pends terminates to the harbour). The West Port is one of few surviving town 'Ports' in Scotland.

The Cathedral and castle

As you can see, it just still ruins due to the attack by the Reformation in 1559.

The castle of St Andrews has had the same destiny.. ruins again!

Since several demolitions and re-built have taken shape, the majority of the castle only now dates back to between 1549 and 1571.

The Old Course

There are seven golf courses in total - Old, New, Jubilee, Eden, Strathtyrum, Balgove and the Castle - surrounding the western approaches of the town. However the sunny weather has attracted us near the sea, thus at the Old Course.

              And to finish..

St Andrews beach !
